Rivalries

Labour Day week-end means only one thing in the CFL. Traditional rivalries. My team, the Winnipeg Blue Bombers are coming off their bye week to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders, who just came off a loss to the Edmonton Eskimos.

Rivalries are fun. It is easy to get up for a game against your arch-nemisis. It is fun to go into their stadium and be rowdy. It is fun to count to 13.

The city of Regina is only worth visiting on Labour Day week-end. The whole city is in party mode. There are jerseys everywhere. There is team pride bursting from every nook and cranny. The atmosphere in the stadium is electric. It has to be, the Riders play out of a terrible stadium. It has no modern conveniences. It has one corner cut off to allow a street to run by and it is is a rough part of town. It doesn't get any better than Labour Day.

I will be there with my Bomber jersey on cheering for the team that has won 10 Grey Cups and not taking any crap from any banjo picking' inbreds. That's how rivalries go.
